In my experience here on Medium, if you realistically talk about climate change you are labeled a "doomer". The NYT had an article about how a young generation of environmental activists have started using the phrase "OK Doomer" when dealing with the "negativity" of older climate activists (like me).
The prevailing mood seems to be, that if you tell people how dire the situation is, they will "give up and do nothing". So, climate activists are supposed to "emphasize solutions" rather than "dwell on problems".
I get the desire to inspire and motivate people but at this point it's wasted effort. The "Climate Crisis" is upon us, it's already happening. Over the next 12-18 months everyone in world is going to get it hammered into their heads that we are having a "Climate Shock" episode.
After that, climate change denial will be over. Everyone will understand that "Climate Change" is "really real" and "really bad".
Socially and politically that's when things will start to get crazy.
We are about to have a massive warming episode over the next 4-5 years. Agricultural output is going to crash and 800 million to 1.5 billion people are going to die in the next 5-6 years. The world as you knew it is over.
We are having a Sarajevo moment: In Ukraine, we may be seeing the first war of the "Climate Crisis".
The "Climate Apocalypse" has come early because we underestimated the warming effects of CO2 by 40%.
Try telling people the truth about what's happening and see how far that gets you. No one wants to hear it. They haven't wanted to hear it for 40 years and they don't want to hear it now.
