Yes I have watched it. I found it very uneven.
There are some interesting ideas and parts of it are really cool but the script is weird. The part where they are on the reservation and the Indian Girl/Mechanic goes with them after fixing their car is good. I liked her character a lot.
Then she just gets written out. All of that time spent on developing her relationship with the main characters, then nothing.
She should have been the replacement for the father in law character after his death. Logically she should become the hero/s companion and possible love interest if the wife turns out to be dead.
Then, when our hero gets to the coast and against all logic and probability FINDS HIS WIFE ALIVE the movie doesn't end with happy reunion. There's the bizarre subplot dealing with the creepy guy who saved the wife and fell in love with her.
Another completely weird waste of time that doesn't add anything to the movie.
I liked the first half the best. The opening where the 'whatever' is happening and no one can find out anything. Everyone's routines interrupted but the inertia of old mindsets and habits. The growing awareness that things are falling apart and that "operators are no longer standing by to take your call".
Then it kinda falls apart. A C+ to B- effort I thought.
In a similar vein have you seen "Into the Forest" (2015).
