Wow, great information Shin. I have been watching this explode and feeling uneasy. I remember the spread of AIDS and know what the "infection pattern" of STI's looks like.
This does not match that in any way. No STI spreads this fast. There is no way the seed population of infected men could have transmitted the virus this quickly via sexual or intimate contact.
Not unless "a kiss" counts as intimate contact. And I'm talking a single kiss with an infected person.
The jump in confirmed cases month over month is staggeringly fast. It looks like the virus is either massively infectious via contaminated surfaces (via hand to oral, genital, anal, or ocular membranes). Or, is more strongly aerosolized than this study indicates.
I have to wonder about the level of contact tracing and testing of exposed individuals around the infected. How comprehensive was it?
It feels to me that there may be a big pool of undetected cases where people aren't recognizing they are infected.
