What happened in the first year of the pandemic was revealing. Almost every government struggled with the awkward fact that 70% of the Covid fatalities were people over 65.

The Republican talk of "isolating the vulnerable" was complete bullshit. They were ready to sacrifice the elderly for the sake of the economy and "let it rip".

Just like Sweden did.

Sweden where the elderly population suffered some of the highest mortality rates in the world. Because the reality was that it was never going to be possible to isolate the elderly if you let the virus spread through the rest of the population.

And they knew it.

Sweden threw their elderly population under the bus for the sake of their economy. In Texas the Republicans were ready to do the same.

Because actually protecting the elderly was just going to cost too much.

The elderly were actually denied hospital care across Europe as governments prioritized space in the medical system for younger patients. In the US, Governor Cuomo famously had hospitals dump elderly patients back into their nursing homes.

Something he later tried to lie about.

There is a reason you almost never see the elderly in post apocalypse movies. They are the first to die.

If you are over 65, we are about to enter a dark time.
