This is a great line, and it's very powerful if you don't think about it too closely. Tie it to Climate Change and it's searing.

Because it's true, people are choosing not to have kids because of their fear of the future.

But...

Global populations have probably peaked and started declining. Not because of famines and disasters (although that's coming soon). Because of the improving social and economic status of women.

With access to birth control and the ability to support themselves financially, women choose to have fewer children. When you stop having children as additional units of labor on the family farm they are an expensive and time consuming hobby.

Populations decline for different reasons, not all of them are bad.

I'm being pedantic but you have to be really careful when you talk about demographics. Before you know it you can find yourself in "Handmaids Tale" territory.

There's always a White racist out there who is going to spout off about "White Genocide" and the need for White Women to stop being "race traitors" and start having more babies.

"Demographics" is a minefield of racism, sexism, and fascist nationalism. You really have to be careful when you discuss it.

A line like this is a great soundbite but clarity and precision are sacrificed. Right now the global population decline is being driven by choice, not fear.

When women have choices they have fewer children.

One of the worst consequences of a "Collapse" for women; is that they will loose that choice.
