We used to regulate the Press and mediums like radio, movies, and television. When was the last time you saw a Virginia Slims cigarette ad on television.

We also regulated "natural monopolies" like power companies, cable companies, and railroads. Bitter experience with what happens when you allow a completely free market led to those regulations.

Conservatives, starting with Reagan argued for deregulation. Promising a cornucopia of benefits for everyone.

In some ways, deregulation worked. There was a lot of innovation and experimentation. Some things got a lot cheaper.

There were social costs, big ones.

There was massive consolidation in a lot of industries and millions lost their jobs. The social costs of that are still playing out.

There was a massive consolidation of wealth into fewer and fewer hands. Social inequality is at an all time high. The 1% of today make the "Robber Barron's" of yore look like rookies.

I have no problem with Elon owning Twitter. I also have no problem with him being regulated and supervised.

My entire life can be described in one sentence: Things didn’t go as planned, and I’m OK with that.
