We did get a rare third year La Nina, that's why this year is only hot and not catastrophically hot. Hansen's forecast in January indicated that this was probably going to be an additional La Nina year. So I am not surprised.

When I wrote my forecast in March I was factoring that in. It's why I forecast the heat to start getting bad in 12 to 18 months from March 1st.

This year is our last "good" year. The heat will explode next year and increase rapidly for 4-5 years after that. Much like the Great Heat Spike of the 30's.

I am afraid these are the last few moments of twilight as the sun sets on our world. By this time next year we will know if I am right or crazy.

Now, if all the ice melts then we are looking at sea level rising about 280 feet. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but it doesn't drown the world. The whole Kevin Costner"Waterworld" thing won't happen.

Also, there is going to be a hard limit on how bad this can get. If we crash our civilization, well, we stop dumping CO2 in the atmosphere. As soon as that stops, the problem stops getting worse.

This isn't like the Permian Mass Extinction or the Triassic. There are no volcanoes pumping CO2 into the atmosphere for millions of years and keeping CO2 levels high.

As soon as we stop, the increase in CO2 stops. Our civilization will crash long before we get to total meltdown territory. Think in terms of 75-150 feet by 2400 and plateauing there.
