Wait, are you telling me 90% of everything isn't supposed to be crap?

Disintermediation is a very two edged sword. We have given everyone a printing press and a place to publish. There has been a huge florescence in talent and new voices.

But,

It's become easier and easier for people to monetize your most valuable commodity; your time and attention. With the failure of a subscription based internet model, monetizing your time, attention, and information is the whole business model of the internet.

Which means, that over time everything on the internet turns into a degraded experience where you are constantly being pitched and yelled at by people trying to get your attention long enough to earn a few cents off that time.

You've been to Mexico, you know what walking through a tourist market is like. Over time, that's what everything on the internet turns into.

The Medium algo could be a lot stronger. As a former project manager who successfully did 2 ERP roll-outs and multi-thousand system replacement projects I think the Medium software team sucks.

There is a lot of sludgy stuff in the interface and multiple places where it doesn't work. The old Medium phone app insists I install the new app. But then the new app crashes at launch. This is inexcusable levels of incompetence.

It reeks of an upgrade project that has spiraled out of control.
