To quantify how important this grain is consider it this way.

A ton is equal to 2000 pounds of grain.

It will feed 15 people for one year with a daily loaf of bread each.

A million tons feeds 15 million people for a year.

20 million tons feeds 300 million people for a year.

1.5 Billion people globally are food insecure and malnourished.

30% of the population in the Middle East are food insecure.

50 million people in the Middle East are currently in a state of severe food insecurity. Basically on the verge of starvation. Walking around every day, constantly hungry.

Egypt for example gets 78% of its wheat imports from Russia and Ukraine.

Turkey gets 85%.

Pakistan, a country with nuclear weapons gets 76%. Imagine what could happen if food riots break out in Pakistan and the government falls.

Now do you see why this grain is suddenly the most important thing in the world to a whole bunch of people. Potentially 300 million people could starve over the next 12 months if this shortfall persists.

FYI the forecasts are for droughts and bad harvests, GLOBALLY for this year, and next year.
