This is a great piece Umair but you have trouble with the fine details of internal US politics. Also, you aren't seeing the "Civil War" happening right in front of you.
Allow me to spell it out. Here’s what I wrote July 25th 2020.
The news this week has been at a surreal level of dystopian scariness. American citizens have been snatched off the street by men in paramilitary uniforms, forced into unmarked vans, and hauled away.
Without probable cause, without identification by the men kidnapping them (because it was not an arrest, detaining someone in this fashion is by definition kidnapping), without advisement of their Miranda rights, without any of the due process of law that supposedly distinguishes the US from a police state or third world dictatorship.
When did ICE and CBP build an army that’s under the personal control of the President?
Who authorized this?
Where did the money to pay their salaries, train, and equip them come from?
How many of them are there?
How long has this been going on and why did anyone think these units were necessary?
The implications of these units are deeply disturbing, and their existence should be a major topic of discussion in the upcoming election. The Republicans need to be called to account for this and DHS needs to be purged of everyone involved in this proto-Gestapo.
Because what it looks like to me, is that they are doing unit shakedowns in anticipation of needing to do post-election riot suppression.
Units like this then showed in in Washington DC. When Trump did his walk to the Church and forced General Milley to walk with him. In what was supposed to be a signal that Trump had the support of the Military for the coup he was already planning and recruiting for.
How do you think Milley found out about the coup Umair?
He was tipped off in September (before the election) by someone in his professional “circle of trust”. That “retired officers” were being recruited for “something big” by Trumpublican leaning Military retirees (probably M. Flynn).
Now, has there been any discussion about these “mystery” internal security forces that seem to have vanished after the election. There hasn’t, because Biden and the Democrats don’t control the Department of Homeland Security anymore. It’s controlled by the Trumpublicans.
Didn’t it seem weird to you that on the first day the Trumpublican Congress started they moved to “impeach” the Homeland Security Secretary.

The guy who has been struggling with both ICE and CBP resisting his every attempt to regain control of the agencies?
Those “secret” internal security forces. They are still there Umair. Still embedded in ICE and CBP and waiting for their signal to be deployed.
The Democrats don’t control the Agencies of the State anymore. They have been infiltrated and packed with Trumpublican Zealots. Just like the Supreme Court.
Some of the Agencies, like CIA, are solid. Others, like FBI are not. Milley has quietly purged over 1,600 from the officer corps for their actions around J6.
Umair, they thought they were going to win in 2020. They were putting all the pieces in place for a big “crackdown” to restore “law and order” after the election. They were getting ready for a “Dirty War” ala Argentina.
Then came Covid and they botched it so badly they realized they might loose. That’s when the post election crackdown plans turned into coup plans.
Umair, you have written about the need to make sure people who attempt coups get punished. Well, NONE of the behind the scenes plotters got arrested or tried yet. Only the “useful idiots” they used as shock troops, cannon fodder, and fall guys.
You all seem to assume the Democrats are blind and incompetent. Review the actions of Pelosi, Schumer, and Milley right after the coup attempt. Those are not the moves of “incompetent” players.
If the Democrats are hesitant to press the attack, perhaps you should consider why that would be the case. Perhaps the numbers and analysis they are looking at indicates that such actions would trigger the event they desperately do not want to happen.
An “Open Conflict” now, when the Climate Crisis is about to get much worse, would mean the end of American Dominance. Biden is desperately trying to thread the needle of internal conflict and need to project strength globally.
Haven’t you noticed the INSANE amount of diplomacy going on this last year?
The Trumpublicans don’t care. They are getting ready for 24' already. As MTG says, “If she had been in charge, they would have won on J6”. Now, they control the committee that could have reigned them in.
These appointments (except for the Santos one, that one is just a big F-you at the Democrats) aren’t about making a mockery of the Agencies of the State to discredit them. These are signs of our intensifying Civil War.
