This is a great discussion but it's getting buried. Few will ever read down this far.

I wholeheartedly agree with the things you are describing. I vividly remember reading Coupland's "Girl in a Coma" (1998) and his discussion of a post apocalypse world slowly dying. Due to reactors melting down, chemical plants burning, and everything else man-made disintegrating into a toxic stew.

We agree on a lot of points.
