There is this myth the the Dust Bowl was about bad farming practices. See the graph of the heat waves, see the graph of the GMT spike? I don't think farming practices caused those.
The dust bowl happened because persistent heat waves baked all the moisture out of the soil and turned it to dust. The "bad farming" you speak of, was busting the sod formed by the natural prairie grasses.
Go outside and throw wheat seeds on your lawn, see how far that gets you. You cannot farm the prairie without breaking up the sod. Blaming that for the dust bowl is a fallacy.
