The "Grid Replacement" costing is from the American Society of Electrical Engineering. One of my degrees is in Electrical Engineering. I tend to believe their estimates.

As for home PV.

I have lived "off-grid" in communes in the 70's and 90's. I have worked on small scale PV, wind, and hydro installs.

It always costs more than you think it will and it's never maintenance free. It's like growing your own food.

You can do it, but why would you?

I am not in favor of PV at the homeowner level. It's an inefficient use of resources.
