No, I cannot “remember that we are all Americans and just be friends”.
Because, one side is acting like it wants a fight. And that’s too dangerous to ignore.
Let me ask you a question.
“How do you think a civil war starts?”
Not the triggering act of transgressive violence that marks the official start of military hostilities. Civil wars start long before those first shots are fired.
The buildup to a civil war can take decades.
However, the signal that things are coming to a head are several years of escalating transgressive violence. These happen just before military hostilities break out.
In the final years before hostilities erupt, there is usually a “precursor” period.
A period of escalating civil violence and “outrages” is a clear precursor signal of civil war or Rawanda style genocidal violence. The most important thing to know about this violence.
This precursor violence, is usually done by only one side. The side that wants war.
There are dozens of examples but here’s one that’s close to home. Again, let me ask you a question.
