Like all cultural artifacts it tells a story.

So, I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately and became aware that a new MCU movie “Wakanda Forever” is about to be released. I don’t have any plans to see it but it got me thinking about stories and their role in culture.

Because we are creatures of “the story”.

We think we remember our lives but mostly we don’t. What we remember are the stories we create out of what we experience.

Which is why, over time, we “become” the stories we tell about ourselves. You cannot show someone a memory from your childhood but you can tell them a story about it. You can pick and choose what you include in the story. You can emphasize or delete elements.

Over time, the story you tell, becomes the memory you keep. Your life is the collection of those stories. Those “memories”.

Here’s an important thing about stories, about memories. When we stop telling them, they die.
