What do you do at 2 AM on Medium?

You write Vogon poetry, naturally.

Because of my neurochemistry and my age, I tend to stay up late. Sometimes because I’m binge watching something like “The Expanse” but mostly because I’m reading. It’s this late-night reading that tends to be the most offbeat and, dare I say, whacky. I’ll read anything late at night that catches my eye.

So, the other night I saw a post by Carol Lennox about her attempt to write “Vogon” poetry. I like Carol’s stuff a lot and one of the things I like about it is that Carol is a serious “FanGirl”. She knows her sci-fi, and we have a lot of reference points in common. One of them being “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams.

Now, if you aren’t a fan, the rest of this isn’t going too mean much to you. You won’t understand why the words “Vogon poetry” will elicit groans and laughs from some people. Or why there’s an actual ongoing contest on Muddyum for Vogon poetry entries. I didn’t know this myself until I read Carol’s piece, but I wasn’t surprised. It’s the kind of thing DA fans do.

Anyway, I read her poem and a response to it popped up in my head. It took me about 10 minutes to look up references and song lyrics then whip it into shape.

My entire life can be described in one sentence: Things didn’t go as planned, and I’m OK with that.
