People telling you that you "inspire" them is a very backhanded compliment when you are autistic.
If you were "normal", had worked hard, and achieved your goals that wouldn't make you special at all. You are "inspiring" because you are so f'-ed up and yet still managed to accomplish something. You inspire them how? Because you exceeded their expectations of what someone like you could be expected to achieve?
The subtext of that compliment is, "if someone like you can achieve their goals, then I certainly should be able to if I get off my ass and work a little". Not, "wow, you have inspired me to be kinder and more empathetic to those less fortunate than myself, so that others won't have to work as hard as you did to succeed."
“Inspiring” others is usually about them taking something from you without giving anything in return. It’s why the exceptions to that rule are so extraordinary and memorable.
