On Politics, War by Other Means — 08
This was a weird election.
It’s a BIG VICTORY for Democrats but they aren’t interpreting it correctly.
Liberal explainers, interpreters, and commentators are doing what they typically do these days, when they get the tiniest shred of good news. They are declaring the “Death of Trumpism”.
On MSNBC they are positively giddy at the unexpected change in fortune of the Democrats. The voting results are seen as an “overwhelming rejection of extremist voices” and a humiliating defeat for Trump.
Is it really though?
Here’s what the numbers say.
Let’s start with turnout. At least 100 million people voted in the midterm elections that wrapped up this week. The actual total isn’t clear yet, in part because the country’s largest state, California, takes a long time counting its votes.
The insane thing is that Trumpublicans are always deeply suspicious of delays like this. Yet they are the ones who have created these delays with their lunatic paranoia about “voting fraud”.
Which demonstrates how much our politics have ceased being “evidence based” and have become “feeling based”.
