Off Topic: But in response to your recommendation.

I will probably watch "From" now. It's been on my radar but "on demand" viewing has changed how I watch things.

I hate to emotionally invest in a series until it has as least two seasons. I was burned with Firefly and Alphas.

But a good recommendation by a "fellow nerd" is gold. It moved to the top of the stack.

This is why nerds are always part of the "vanguard" of social change. We constantly "cross pollinate" each other's minds with "culture memes".

To the point that it has become our own "private" jargon. Remember the ST:TNG episode: Darmok?

I would bet money you know what this means.

Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.

Shaka, when the walls fell.

For the non-initiated. This most famous phrase (which appears on some hilarious T-shirts) means, basically, “working together.” “Darmok and Jalad on the ocean.” Building on the last one, this is when two strangers, or foes, work together against a threat and succeed.

Most famously this idea was hilariously depicted in "The Martian". Remember the "Council of Elrond" scene when the Press Secretary rants about "did none of you have dates in high school".

Since my 20's LOTR has been a date filter for me. I cannot be serious about any woman who hasn't read it. Seeing the movies doesn't count.
