Understanding the Global Climate System isn’t as hard as you think. We have most of the pieces to “SEE” it clearly now.

The Earth’s Climate System — A Short Users Guide.

The Earth is “tilted” in its orientation to the Sun. This is an artifact of the early Earth’s collision with a Mars sized planet named Theia. This collision also resulted in the formation of the Moon.

Our planet is tilted in its orientation with the Sun. This drives EVERYTHING about our Climate.

It’s what gives us Seasons.

The tilt of the Earth, means that each of the two Poles is in darkness for part of the year. Remember, the tilt of the Earth is constant. So, as it orbits the Sun each hemisphere gets more sunlight for six months of the year.

It’s what gives us our Climate System.

80% of the ENERGY from the Sun is captured in the ‘Torrid’ zone between latitudes 23N and 23S.

On the globe, what that translates to is the area between the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern. Eighty percent of the energy the Earth gets from the Sun is captured in this area, known as “The Torrid Zone” or “The Tropics”.
