It makes me crazy as well when Climate Optimists trot out this point. Great, humanity won't go extinct. Not so great, the next 100K years humanity will exist at a hunter/gatherer level of technology and the global population will be around 500 million.

The way they say it, always makes me suspect that a lot of them would be happy if that's how things play out. There's a certain "anti-humanism" that has become common in the ecomovements lately. There's a lot of talk about "overshoot" and the need for a correction of the human population.
