In a time when so many are frustrated and YEARN for "real change" it is hard to get people to understand the HIGH COST of "Revolution". Greg seeks to interject a "reality check" onto the conversation with this article.
I have written similar articles and share Greg's viewpoint. If anything he doesn't go far enough in making clear the costs of revolutions.
Countries which go through a civil war or revolution ALWAYS experience around 30% depopulation.
What the HELL did you think happens to the losers? Did you think everyone "kissed" and "made up"?
What did you think happened to all the Loyalists after the American Revolution, aka The First American Civil War. The Colonies depopulated by about 30% as the Loyalist were "cleansed" from the country and their property was stolen.
There is a reason that it's almost always a 30% depopulation event. Social science has found that 30% is the minimum number necessary for a Minority to rule over the other 70% on a stable basis.
Social Science also tells us that about 40% of any population is "Apolitical". This is ALWAYS true in every society. These are the "Silent Majority" who basically will do as they are told but really don't care about who's running things.
They, and their productivity, are the PRIZE that the other 60% fight over.
In a Democracy it's about getting to 30% through persuasion.
In Revolution it's about murdering the 30% you disagree with.
