I'm sorry but the Chinese are allied with Putin and knew about the Ukraine invasion in advance. They started buying up grains in a major way after the March meeting in 2021 when they signed a "moonbase" treaty with Russia.

By December of 2021 they had stockpiled 1/2 of all the available grain reserves in the world.

In February they met before the Olympics and Xi told Putin to postpone the attack on Ukraine until after the Olympics were over. Which he did.

6 hours before the attack started they signed a deal that Russia would supply China with a huge amount of grain for the next 20 years. Grain that Russia doesn't have unless it controls Ukraine.

This war is about logistics for China and Russia.

So, while the word "hoarding" is pejorative it is not completely inappropriate in this case. China intends to use food aid diplomatically, the same way the US does. As a tool of influence.

Russia is already using food to subordinate Turkey. By taking stolen wheat from Ukraine, Erdogan is making himself into Putin's ally.

The world is changing fast now. The pressure is on and a lot of countries are changing alliances in response to that.

My entire life can be described in one sentence: Things didn’t go as planned, and I’m OK with that.
