I wrote on this a few months ago (My Take - 02) although my perspective was slightly different.
“Right now Conservatives don’t want “Free Speech”. What they want, is the power to force all of us to have to listen to “their speech” first.”
I went with historical cases of the dangers of allowing concentration of media into Billionaire hands.
Does anyone remember William Randolph Hearst?
Does anyone remember Yellow Journalism?
The Rupert Murdock of his time, he bought up newspapers when they were the main means of social media. He then turned them into the equivalent of FOX NEWS.
He used that outrage and propaganda machine to get the country to go to war.
Remember the "Spanish American War"?
We don't talk about that one a lot.
Because we attacked Spain without warning. Destroyed their fleet in the Pacific (killing thousands BTW, just like the Japanese did at Pearl Harbor). Seized Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.
So, that Hearst could get even richer.
Because he wasn't just into newspapers. He was into mining and real estate.
He had people coming in right behind the military. Buying up land and mineral rights for next to nothing. The Hearst's made even more money.
They are still fighting for reparations in Mexico over the vast holdings they acquired during the Porfino dictatorship. A guy they LOVED BTW and fawned over in their papers.
Holdings they lost during the 1910 revolution. When the socialists nationalized foreign holdings. They are still fighting that, they still want their goddamn money.
So, I took a slightly different tack than Umair did. But we wind up at the same place. This is a bad sign.
The Right and the Elites learned the lesson of Hearst. They got deregulation in the 80's under Reagan. Since then, they have gained control of Television, Radio, Newspapers, and a great deal of social media.
Historically, when one side controls the media bad things are about to happen.
