I don't want to sound snarky but in this case Des is right. What you are describing is the "Star Trek Scenario".
It's become a shorthand way of describing what a future "best case" result would be for humanity. No poverty, no hunger, free education, free medical care, individual freedoms, etc. Basically a post-industrial utopia.
Here's the problem.
In order to make that happen you have to have INFINITE AMOUNTS of clean energy. In Star Trek they have fusion reactors the size of suitcases. They have infinite power and yea, they fix all the problems we have today.
That only works if we get fusion power.
So, we are at a major fork in our decision tree. Do we?
1. Say "full speed ahead". Keep burning fossil fuels like there is no tomorrow and count on a breakthrough saving us. Like the Green Revolution did in the 20th.
This is the choice of the "Hope-ium" crowd. The Techo-Optimists, or Wizards.
2. Start degowth and reallocation of resources. To provide everyone globally the best life possible at a sustainable level.
The safest choice, the choice to make if you want to ensure the longevity of our current cultural development (last 10Kya). But, it requires a lot of giving up the way we live now.
Here's the catch.
If the Wizards get it wrong. Well then everybody dies. Total Cultural Collapse, Rapid Depopulation of 99% levels, Total Loss of Cultural Continuity. Complete disaster by 2100.
Now, which option do you want to take. You only get one and you have to choose. Basically RIGHT NOW.
Because we are out of time.
