I disagree. The post war swing to a Social Democracy in which education, health care, housing, etc . were a basic right was good government. It created a social foundation of basic security and opportunity.
It constrained the ability of elites to amass wealth and loot the economy. Thatcher, like Reagan destroyed the social safety net and sold it to voters by saying that they were "unchaining" business.
Promising that the "creative destruction", modernization, and deregulation would lead to riches for everyone. In both cases it has meant that the 0.01% have captured about 90% of all the new wealth created in the last 40 years.
We have all been getting poorer for 40 years because of this lie that people bought into in the 80's. That increasing poverty is what led to the desperation and anger that fueled Brexit.
Britain had a pretty decent government before Thatcher.
