I came across this same argument from someone saying how great it was that CO2 emissions fell 8% in China last quarter. Saying that maybe China could make that permanent because it shows what's possible.

Here's the problem. That 8% drop is the supply chain getting even weaker.

That drop wasn't from carbon cutting efforts. That was from rivers running dry and factories shutting down to save energy.

That 8% drop represents catastrophic Climate Change happening right now. That's stuff, like solar panels and lithium batteries not getting made.

I wouldn't cheer over that 8%. Because we need to have all of the factories making the stuff we need to transition to a renewable energy economy running 24/7/365.

Economic slowdowns, perversely, now do more harm than help.
