I agree with you about nuclear power as a baseload system. Particularly since I think that cities are going to have to become very "self contained" if they are to survive.

The biggest problem is going to be the collapse of reliable transportation networks. Transportation of goods, power, people, etc over long distances is going to become increasingly problematic.

Renewables all require lots of space and therefore LONG transmission lines. In a world of violent weather and starving people, that seems like a recipe for disaster.

What they all should be doing "right now" is starting construction on rings of nuclear plants around each city. Enough to power the city and support the construction of vertical farming facilities.

If you can secure power, food, and water a city can become a self sustainable ark going forward.
