Seriously, it's not just old white guys. I harp on this when discussing abortion. Women make up 52% of the population. If they were united on the issue it would not be in jeopardy.
White Boomer Women outnumber White Boomer Men. Men die younger and Covid kills us two to one when it's men vs women. The foundation of Trumpublicanism is White Boomer Women.
But it's more than that, in EVERY age cohort men vote Trumpublican by a wide margin. Close to 2 out 3 White men are Trumpublicans. It's not just the 'old guys', that/s the stereotype. It's White guys of all ages.
I blame social media. Facebook is basically a propaganda/brainwashing machine. Numerous studies have shown it's effect on the brain. People basically "brainwash" themselves willingly and VERY rapidly.
That's what "the Zuck" actually stumbled on. I wrote about this in 21'
Think of Facebook as a city, a city with rich resources. Both sides want to take control of Facebook, because it’s important. It’s like one of those port cities that control over can decide the outcome of a war.
It’s so F’ing important that it cannot be allowed to continue going on completely independently. This city is going to be taken by someone.
Right now, the Democrat army is at the gates of the city demanding that the Mayor, “the Zuck" come out and surrender the city. However, it turns out that “the Zuck" made a deal with the Trump folks last year.
If he agreed to let them keep using Facebook as a propaganda tool, they promised him a very favorable regulatory environment after the election. More than anything, avoiding regulation is what “the Great Zuck" wants. Regulation would make Facebook less profitable.
So, Zuck took that deal with the devil. He let the Trumpublican’s use Facebook as a propaganda machine. Hell, he charged them for using Facebook and made 50m just from the Trump campaign alone.
There's this toxic stew of racism, misogyny, homophobia, shame, entitlement, and anger. The Right has played to and fostered racial resentment since Nixon. Now you see the end results in these crazed old white guys who have internalized this bile for over 50 years.
