This is an old debate. Read "The Wizard and the Prophet". This is the same debate we have been having since the 1930's.

You guys just think you won because Borlaug showed up and saved our asses in the 60's. Your whole strategy is based on the idea of "breakthroughs" saving us again and again.

This is similar to the gambler who is on a "hot streak" continuing to "let it ride" because "he hasn't lost yet". It is utterly irresponsible and when it fails the consequences will be catastrophic.
