Build a cistern if you can. In the Yucatan the Maya built them on huge scales. They stored water in these "chultunes" during the rainy season and rationed it out during the dry.

The link between control of water and political power. Becomes very explicit during the Late Classic when the droughts were slowly killing the Maya civilization.

At the site of Kabah, the East Palace group is literally built on top of the cisterns. The main plaza is arranged so that the king/queen would be standing on a symbolic hill from which water flowed, when they performed for the crowd in the plaza.

The messaging is very clear.

In any case, most of us are tied to our municipal water system. We cannot go out and drill a well or build a cistern.

Knowing that. Perhaps this would be a good time to check up on your water provider. See how they are doing. Assess if there are problems brewing they might have no control over.

Remember the rule of threes. You can live only:

3 minutes without air.

3 days without water.

3 weeks without food.
