Applause for doing an essay on grammar. Not many people go there. I think it takes readers back to grade school. Mostly they tune out.

However, grammar can be extremely interesting when you start viewing it through the twin lenses of epigraphy and linguistics. I took courses in cuneiform, Chinese ideographs, and Egyptian hieroglyphics when I was studying the Maya written language.

Once you start doing comparative linguistics grammar moves onto a more conceptual level and becomes really interesting. It's this whole web of cultural reflection, organic evolution over time, and direct interventions.

I haven't thought of those studies in years. Thanks for reminding me. Just curious, have you learned Esperanto? As an attempt at a created "universal" language with a rational "designed" grammer it is very interesting.
