Americans are going to hold onto that as long as they possibly can. There just isn't any room in the conversation when one side starts with a statement that their position is "nonnegotiable".

All that leaves is for everyone else to come up to an "American Lifestyle" or for everyone else in the world to live in poverty. Both of those answers are not realistic.

Which is why your average American doesn't understand America's weakness in the world today. They still believe the mythology that "America is the Greatest Place EVER" and an example for the rest of the world to emulate.

They don't have a clue about how much the rest of the world resents America and Americans. Finding that out, when the world joins China and SANCTIONS the US, is going to be a shocking "wake up call" for your average American.
