You don't seem to understand the role of racism in all of this. Which doesn't surprise me. You aren't a racist, and so have trouble seeing the world racist WHITES do.

WHITE America stopped supporting public education when public education stopped supporting racism.

They understand something that you don't, because it doesn't apply to you. Here/s the scary reality of humanity.

About 80% of the population learns almost everything they will ever know about the world when they graduate High School. That's the last time in their lives that they will be "forced" to learn anything.

Being "Informed" costs you time. In our culture time is money or a precious opportunity for leisure. Most people don't read for pleasure much less pick up non-fiction books except for work.

Most adults are uninformed about almost everything and shape their worldviews based on what they "hear" their trusted sources say. We tolerate an amazing amount of batshit craziness in this country in the name of personal freedom of belief.

Including a pretty fixed racism among American WHITES.

2 out 3 White Americans votes Trumpublican. That's 42% of the country. They want to make sure another generation of White Kids is indoctrinated with their beliefs.

Right now, they have the power to make it happen. Because they understand that there is a Civil War going on, while the rest of America is just waking up to that fact.
