A thoughtful, nuanced, humane response to the bloodshed. One grounded in historical realities and current events. Your writing reflects your "humanity" and concern for EVERYONE.
Here's a DIFFERENT take on the situation. I see this as a new "front" in the US/China War.
Currently the US and China are locked in a struggle for Global Dominance. China is "making their play" to dethrone the US and the "war" is raging across the globe.
In Ukraine, their ally Russia, is making a grab for FOOD and resources. This action has drawn the US into the conflict and we have COMMITTED to supporting Ukraine.
It's a "just" cause, but it comes a a HUGE price.
We are BURNING through advanced munitions and weapon systems faster than we can replace them. Strategically the Ukraine conflict is a "festering wound" for the US. It is "bleeding us white".
Now, at the same time China is threatening Taiwan.
Where +90% of ALL the computer chips in the world are made. Including the ones we use in our advanced munitions.
The US has to defend Taiwan as if it were the 51st state. We have NO CHOICE. If we lose access to Taiwan's computer chips our country will be crippled for at least 5 years, possibly as long as 10.
Now, this in Gaza.
Another stressor that is forcing the US to deploy more military assets and burn even more munitions. Another conflict that is POLARIZING the Global 80% against the US, among whom Israel is seen as a "Crusader State". Created by the West and propped up with Western support.
While the Palestinian civilian population is paying the price for this conflict, this "war" really isn't about them.
